The Sun Does Shine

We have had two fine days here on Iona. Yesterday we went to Staffa. What a great island. It has 5 and 6 sided columns formed from volcanic rock. It is just an amazing place. We could even walk into one of the caves formed by the water into the side of the island. The water was fairly calm and the sun shone most of the time. Today, I did the on road pilgrimage. We walked and paused and prayed along the way. The weather made it quite enjoyable. The people attending the week, while small in number, are great for discussions and chats. Most are Anglican but we also have a Quaker, a person from and emerging church, Lutheran, Roman Catholic etc. It provides a good mix for talking about the issue of sexuality and the church. More discussion tonight and the next two days on the topic.
The worship at the Abbey last night focused on domestic abuse and was very powerful. I am really enjoying the music they use from the Church Hymnary 4. Lots of contemporary but justice focused songs.

Hello Robin,
Your most recent post was very enjoyable to read.I have never visited Staffa but have heard good reports of it from others. So pleased you had good weather and the onroad pilgrimage would be an experience all of its own
The first time visitng Walsinham we arrived by overnight coach from Newcastle at 6a.m.We walked barefoot from the Slipper Chapel to the Shrine singing the Walsingham Hymn and praying the devotions in the Pilgrim's handbook. That was all in 1967.It was an indelible moment and shaped things that were to follow.
Sometimes, the smallness of number which you allude to, is more than made up by the variety of discussion and experience of the people. This sounds very much like you are finding this week.
On a more practical note ,the book which you returned by airmail arrived today.I shal welcome the opportunity of talking about it further when you return.
You wre remembered by name at both
altars on Sunday.
Neil

At Walsingham, the had the feats of the Annunciation the night before we arrived. I think they ahd a pilgrimage between the two shrines. We drove between the two. Yes the week is going well with lots of discussion in sessions and small groups and even more discussion at the pub each night after the 9pm Abbey service
